Flap Discs

An abrasive flap disc does the job of a grinding wheel and a resin fiber disc to grind and finish metal surfaces. AFT Fasteners offers both trimmable flap discs and traditional fiberglass backed flap discs. Trimmable flap discs have a disc backing designed to trim down to expose fresh abrasive flaps for extended working life, allowing for fewer disc changes and longer production times. Fiberglass backed discs hold up to the toughest applications and available with 7/8” or 5/8”-11 arbors.

When selecting a flap disc, AFT offers aluminum oxide flap discs, zirconia flap discs and ceramic grain flap discs. As the premium choice, ceramic flap discs last 50% longer than zirconia and will not stain or burn material. Diameter options include 4”, 4-1/2”, 5” and 7” to be used with an angle grinder.

Type 27 Flap Discs vs Type 29 Flap Discs

Type 27 flap discs have a flat shape used for working on flat grinding surfaces. They are most efficient when used between 0 degree and 15 degree angles. Type 27 discs are the best choice for smooth finishing.

Type 29 flap discs have conical shaped flaps that are angled at 10 degrees, which is ideal for contour edge work. Angled flaps provide greater surface contact for a more aggressive cut. Type 29 discs are most efficient when used between 15 degree and 25 degree angles.
