Rivet Nuts

Rivet nuts, also known as rivnuts, nutserts, blind rivet nuts or threaded inserts, are fasteners used to create strong, threaded connections in materials where it may not be possible to use traditional nuts and bolts. They are commonly used in sheet metal, plastic, and composite materials.

Rivet nuts consist of a cylindrical body with internal threads and a flange at one end. The opposite end is designed to be inserted into a pre-drilled hole in the material. The flange provides a load-bearing surface, while the internal threads allow for the attachment of screws, bolts, or other threaded fasteners.

The installation of rivet nuts is typically done using a specialized tool, such as a rivet nut setter. The tool pulls the rivet nut into the material, deforming it to create a secure connection. This process can be performed from one side of the material, hence the term "blind" rivet nut.

Rivet nuts offer several advantages over traditional threaded inserts or tapped holes. They allow for the installation of threads in thin or brittle materials without the need for additional reinforcement. They also provide a strong, vibration-resistant connection, making them suitable for applications where reliability is crucial.

Rivet nuts find applications in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, electronics, furniture, and general manufacturing. They are commonly used to attach components, mount equipment, or provide threaded connections in materials that cannot support traditional fastening methods.

AFT Fasteners carries many styles of rivnuts including knurled, swagging and ribbed. Materials include steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Inch and metric sizes are available. Please search our online selection or contact us for a quote.
