Screw Machine Length Drill Bits

Screw machine length drill bits are shorter in flute and overall length than standard jobber drills which provides maximum strength and rigidity while minimizing deflection. They are intended for use in screw machine drills and are useful in a wide range of applications where a shorter drill depth is permissible. AFT carries several varieties of screw machine length drills made by Norseman Drill and Tool, Champion Cutting Tool and HTC.

Super Premium NAS 907C Screw Machine Length Drill Bits

These high-quality, straight shank drills are manufactured from a special hi-moybdenum tool steel which is tougher than cobalt steel. These super premium Norseman screw machine length drills satisfy NAS 907C specifications. Intended for heavy-duty construction tasks on work hardened stainless steel and other hard metals, screw machine drills feature a 135-degree split point that eliminates the need for a center punch.

Available Finishes

Gold surface treated NAS 907C Screw Machine Length Drills possess optimum lubricity for maximum speed. Individual gold screw machine drills are available in wire sizes from #1-#60, fractional sizes ranging from 1/16" to 3/4" and A-Z letter sizes. Premium gold treated screw machine length drill bit sets with an assortment of drill sizes can also be purchased.

Thanks to their ability to penetrate quickly and accurately center, NAS 907C screw machine drills with a bright finish are ideal for thin metal work. Wire sizes from #1-#60 and fractional diameters from 1/16" to 1/2" are available. Please note that wire sizes smaller than #52 do not have a split point.

Titanium nickel (TiN) coated premium screw machine drills offer impressive hardness and lubricity for faster drilling speed and extended tool life. Wire sizes from #1-#60 and fractional diameters from 1/16" to 1/2" are available. Please note that wire sizes smaller than #52 do not have a split point.

M42 Cobalt HSS Screw Machine Drill Bits

Crafted from M42 high speed steel which contains 8% cobalt, these screw machine length drill bits possess increased hot hardness which in turn permits speeds that are 30% faster than standard high speed steel drills. The 135-degree split point helps prevent walking or slipping at the drill location. M42 cobalt screw machine drills are suitable for drilling hard metals, free machining grades (303) of stainless steel and abrasive plastics. In addition to unfinished drills, certain sizes are also available with a TiN coating. The titanium nitride coating provides extra lubricity at the point for faster speeds and extended tool life. Uncoated cobalt screw machine drill bits are available in both wire and fractional sizes; however the TiN coated cobalt drills are only available in fractional sizes ranging from 1/16" to 1/2".

Heavy Duty 1/4" Reduced Shank Screw Machine Drill Bits

This HSS, heavy-duty surface treated, screw length drill is recommended for "punch" drilling in hard, tough sheet metal. The 135-degree split point allows it make accurately located holes. The 1/4" reduced shank drill is available in fractional diameters ranging from 17/16" to 1/2".

High Speed Steel Screw Machine Length Drill Bits

General purpose HSS screw machine drills are suitable for all screw machine operations. They can also be used in portable drilling equipment. With a 118-degree point, the drills are designed for easy penetration and removal of chips on hard materials. Standard 118-degree screw machine drills are available in fractional, wire and letter sizes and feature a bright finish on diameters through 3/4", while flutes over 3/4" are surface treated. Additionally, wire sizes and fractional sizes from 1/16" through 1/2" are available with a Titanium Nickel (TiN) coating which provides added lubricity and therefore speed. Please note that drill sizes over 1-1/16" have a reduced shank.
