T Nuts

T-nuts, also known as tee nuts or T-slot nuts, are a type of fastener used in woodworking, cabinetry, and metalworking. They are designed to provide a threaded socket in materials such as wood, particleboard, or metal, allowing for the attachment of bolts or screws.

The name comes from its shape, which resembles the letter "T" when viewed from the side. It consists of a flat base with prongs or spikes protruding from the bottom and a threaded barrel on the top. The prongs are inserted into pre-drilled holes or slots, and the T-nut is then hammered or pressed into place. The prongs grip the material, preventing the T-nut from rotating or loosening.

The threaded barrel on the top of the T-nut allows for the attachment of bolts, screws, or threaded rods. This provides a secure and adjustable connection point for various applications.

T-slot tracks and extrusions are often used. These items are usually found in workbenches, machine tables, and industrial equipment. They allow for flexible positioning and attachment of accessories or fixtures.

T-nuts are available in different sizes and thread types to accommodate various bolt sizes and applications. They can be made from various materials, including steel, stainless steel, or brass, depending on the specific requirements of the project.

Types of T Nuts

Tee nuts for wood are available in two styles, 3-Prong and 4-Prong.

A 3-prong has three evenly spaced prongs that extend downward from the base. The prongs are made to fit into the material. This gives a firm hold and stops the T-nut from rotating or coming loose.

The 3-Prong styles are used for fastening harder materials, such as metal to wood, particle board or plastic, as they minimize splitting of the mating surface

On the other hand, a 4-prong has four prongs instead of three. The extra prong provides more stability and less rotation. Therefore, it's perfect for applications that require more strength or a stronger connection. 4-Prong styles are generally used for hard or soft woods.

The choice between a 3-prong and 4-prong depends on the specific application and the desired level of stability. A 4-prong connection may be preferred when attaching heavy-duty equipment or fixtures. This type of connection is stronger and more rigid. However, for lighter loads or applications where flexibility is desired, a 3-prong may be sufficient.

They are commonly used in applications where weight reduction is a priority, such as in aerospace, automotive, or electronics industries. Aluminum T-nuts are also popular for assembling aluminum extrusion systems, such as T-slot tracks.
