What is a plow bolt used for?
They are most commonly used in snowplows (#4 is most common for this application), which is how they got their name. Other common uses include tractors and other heavy equipment (#3 bolts), bucket tooth excavators (#7 bolts), general agricultural equipment (clipped head), and cultivator applications (elliptical head).
What’s the difference between a plow bolt and a carriage bolt?
While they both have square necks, the key difference between these two bolts is that carriage bolts are typically used for smaller applications, including snowplows that are attached to pick-up trucks.
What grades and materials are available?
Plow bolts are available in grades 5 and 8. Grade 5 plow bolts are made from a medium-grade, heat-treated carbon steel. In comparison, Grade 8 plow bolts are made from heat-treated alloy steel and provide greater tensile and proof load strength. This makes them a popular candidate for bulldozers and snowplow blades.
What sizes and finishes are available?
