Thread-locking fluid, or threadlockers is a type of adhesive that is applied to the external or internal threads of fasteners, such as bolts, nuts, lockwashers, and screws to prevent loosening, leakage, and corrosion. Threadlockers are used in a wide range of industries, from automotive and aerospace, to manufacturing and construction, where fasteners are prone to vibration or highly corrosive environments.

Types of Threadlockers

There are 2 main types of threadlockers currently available: inert threadlockers and reactive threadlockers. Also known as prevailing torque, inert threadlocking creates a secure fastening lock, which is resistant to vibration and shock related slippage. Reactive threadlockers are comprised of a chemical bond which is formed from the adhesive, preventing slippage from shock and vibration while helping to seal fastening points against gas and liquid leakage.

AFT offers many different types of both pre-applied inert and reactive threadlocking processed as well as user-applied (bottled) threadlockers. A few options include: permanent and removable threadlockers, threadlockers for wood/plastic/nylon materials, reusable threadlockers, threadlockers that require or doesn't require drilling, and chemical-resistant threadlockers.

Temp

Used for locking & sealing, the ND Patch Hi-Temp is a a high-temperature pre-applied threadlocking coating which is fused to a fastener's internal or external threads making it self-sealing and self-locking. The coating process produces a completely dry process and is ready to use right out of the box. It is resistant to high temperatures, requires a low temperature for application, is reusable, chemical resistant, and does not require drilling or milling.

ND Pell-It®

AFT Fasteners ND Pell-It

Used for locking & sealing, the ND Pell-It is a special, tough nylon plug or pellet, inserted into a drilled hole, which makes any threaded fastener self-locking and self-sealing, while leaving it fully adjustable. It can be installed in external or internally threaded fasteners of just about any size, material or finish. The ND Pell-It is resistant to vibration or reversal of stress, resists heat and cold, resists chemicals, and has outstanding reusability.

Used for locking & sealing, the ND Pell-It Soft Touch Tip is a pre-applied, self-locking, self-sealing, environmentally friendly material pellet inserted in set screw or bolt ends. The Pell-It permits full-face, cushioned contact with a curved shaft while ensuring a secure hold. The tip prevents marring and scratching caused by metal-to-metal contact, can be used to insulate where an electrical current is present, is chemical resistant, resists heat and cold, and can be used repeatedly with damage to the threads.

ND Stripe®

AFT Fasteners ND Stripe

The ND stripe is used for locking and sealing, and is usually a resilient bar of Nylon (other materials available) that is inserted into a slot which has been milled into a threaded fastener. The ND Strip makes fasteners self-locking, self-sealing, and yet fully adjustable. It's ideal for all types of commercial, automotive, and aerospace fasteners due to it's outstanding performance in both high and low temperatures. The ND Strip has a wider range of adjustment and larger working area compared to most other elements. It's also chemical resistant, easy to customize torque, and can be used on non-metallic fasteners.

Vibra-Tite VC-3®

AFT Fasteners Vibra-Tite

Used for locking & sealing, Vibra-Tite VC-3 is a powerful locking and sealing coating for threaded fasteners that works on the principle of "friction through viscosity." It utilizes a special blend of acrylic resins to prevent fasteners from loosening - even under extreme vibration. It was designed for use on internal and external threads of almost any material or finish. Unlike many other pre-applied threadlockers, VC-3 does not require heat for it's application process. Vibra-Tite VC-3 can be used on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, most platings, wood, nylon, PPE, or PP plastics.

NylokHD® Patch

Nylok Patch

NylokHD® Patch is a high performance self-locking nylon retention element permanently bonded onto the threads of a nut via a special application technique. NylokHD® Patch will provide greater re-usability, and reduced torque scatter. When the patch is engaged, it creates a wedging action between the nut and mating part, compressing the nylon and promoting tight metal-to-metal contact opposite the patch. This metal-to-metal contact provides a positive resistance to vibration and loosening. Since nylon has great memory characteristics, this locking element is reusable. NylokHD® Patch can be applied to nuts of any style or plating. A wide range of nut sizes can be processed.

Nylok® Blue Nylon Pellet & strip is a self-locking element comprised of nylon permanently embedded into the threads of a fastener. The pellet is a drilled hole with a plug of over sized nylon wedged into the hole. The strip is a milled slot with a string of over sized nylon wedged into the slot. When the pellet & strip are engaged it creates a wedge between the fastener and mating part compressing the nylon and creating metal to metal contact opposite the element. This metal to metal contact results in a positive resistance to vibration and loosening. Since nylon has great memory characteristics, this locking element can be reused several times.

Nylok® Blue Nylon Strip

Nylok Blue Nylon Strip

Nylok® Torq-Strip® self-locking elements are permanently embedded in the threads of a fastener. When mating threads are engaged, the tough, resilient Blue nylon element is compressed and a counter-force is created to establish a much stronger contact and positive resistance to vibration and loosening.

Nylok® Torq-Strip® self-locking element can be applied to your own fasteners, or ready-to-install self-locking fasteners can be supplied to meet your specifications.
