What is a wing nut used for? 

Wing nuts are ideal for applications requiring frequent assembly and disassembly, such as access panels, adjustable furniture, marine hardware, automotive parts, and more. It is also ideal that these nuts are used in applications that require minimal torque, due to the manual nature of its adjustment. 

What types of wing nuts are available? 

AFT offers wing nuts in types A, B, C, and D. 

• Type A is cold-forged from steel or stainless steel, offering superior strength.
• Type B is hot-forged for enhanced durability and performance.
• Type C is die-cast, combining strength with corrosion resistance.
• Type D is crafted from stamped carbon steel sheet metal, featuring hollow wings formed through precision stamping. They offer slightly less strength, but are more cost-effective. 

Which bolt or screw should I use with a wing nut? 

Wing bolts can be used with a variety of bolts and screws, but it is important the diameter of the nut corresponds with the diameter of the bolt (ie a 1/4”-20 bolt needs a 1/4”-20 wing nut). 

What sizes are available? 

AFT offers wing nuts in both SAE standard and metric sizing. Diameter-thread sizes range from #6-32 to 5/8”-11, or M3-0.50 to M18-2.50. 

What materials and finishes are available? 

Wing nuts are available in stainless steel, steel, and nylon. They come in either plain or Zinc Cr+3 finishes for additional corrosion resistance.
