Band Clamps / Center Punch Clamps

Center punch hose clamps are a type of clamp used for securing hoses to fittings. They consist of a metal band and a buckle. Unlike traditional worm gear clamps that tighten with a screw, a center punch clamp is installed using a specialized tool that tensions the band and then "punches" the buckle to permanently lock it in place. This creates a secure, tamper-proof seal.

How They Work

The installation process is straightforward but requires a specific tool.

  • Placement: The pre-formed clamp is placed around the hose and fitting.
  • Tensioning: A center punch tool is used to pull the band tight, cinching the clamp around the hose.
  • Locking: The tool has a "punch" mechanism that, when hit with a hammer, deforms the buckle, locking the band permanently.
  • Finalization: The excess band is then cut off, and the tool is removed.

Benefits and Applications

Center punch clamps are known for their durability and reliable, leak-proof connections. They are often used in low-pressure applications, such as for air and water hoses. They are a permanent or semi-permanent solution, as the clamp must be cut off for removal. These clamps are also used in various industrial, agricultural, and automotive settings.

Materials

Center punch clamps are commonly made from stainless steel (like 302 or 201 series) or galvanized carbon steel, offering durability and resistance to corrosion.
